Yesterday, I had planned to go on quite a long walk to potentially add to the photos I have taken previously including water and rock formations. However, the weather wasn't on my side and I didn't want to risk getting all the way there and then end up getting soaked. Instead, me and my friends decided to take the short drive to Sutton Scarsdale Hall, an old, dilapidated hall quite close to where I live in Chesterfield. Sutton Scarsdale Hall was built in the 1720's but has been roofless since 1919 when it was dismantled to ship to America. What is left is the shell of the building and some traces of the plasterwork and tiles that would have been part of the interior of the mansion. There is a lot of maintenance work going on at the moment so there is scaffolding up in parts of the building. However it is still a really interesting place to visit as the imposing walls create exciting photos. Abandoned buildings etc have interested me for a long time and I think it is good that English Heritage allow people to visit the ruins at Sutton Scarsdale to see what the building is like now and to imagine what it would have been like in the Georgian era.
